After a two-year hiatus, the enigmatic and dangerous Joe Goldberg, portrayed by Penn Badgley, is back on our screens. Season 5 of 'You' premiered yesterday on Netflix, with the first two episodes now available for streaming. This season promises to be a gripping conclusion to Joe's tumultuous journey.

Previously on You

Over four seasons, Joe (Penn Badgley) has been the human embodiment of the phrase “it’s complicated.” From stalking aspiring writer Beck in New York, to reinventing himself in L.A. with the equally unhinged Love Quinn, to navigating suburban life (and murder) in Madre Linda, and finally faking his death to start anew in London, Joe’s journey has been anything but linear. Each season peeled back layers of his psyche, revealing a man torn between a desire for genuine connection and an inability to stop, well, killing people.

Season 5: The Final Chapter

Now, Joe has returned to New York City, aiming to lead a peaceful life with his wife, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), who has ascended to CEO of the Lockwood Corporation. However, Joe's past is not easily left behind. As he attempts to maintain his new persona, old habits and unresolved issues resurface, threatening to unravel his carefully constructed facade .

The new season introduces compelling characters, including Bronte (Madeline Brewer), a free-spirited bookstore employee who challenges Joe's worldview, and Detective Marquez (Nava Mau), determined to bring Joe to justice .

Worth the Binge?

Absolutely. The first two episodes set the stage for a season that promises to be as introspective as it is suspenseful. Joe’s internal monologue remains as sharp and unsettling as ever, offering glimpses into a mind at war with itself. The return to New York provides a nostalgic backdrop, while new characters inject fresh energy into the narrative.

As the final season unfolds, viewers can expect a blend of the series’ signature dark humor, psychological insight, and, of course, a body count that would make Dexter blush. Whether Joe finds redemption or meets a well-deserved end remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain: You won’t be able to look away.
